Welcome To Dr. Joey m. Pirrung Elementary School!

The personal philosophy of Dr. Joey M. Pirrung was the guiding force behind his many contributions to the Mesquite School District as well as the city of Mesquite, prior to his retirement from medical practice in 1986. The school opened in the fall of 1987 and was officially dedicated October 9, 1988. Additional classrooms were added in 1990 to accommodate the rapid growth in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Dr. Joey Pirrung opened his medical practice in Mesquite in 1958. Dr. Pirrung served the MISD as team physician for 25 years. In the days before athletic trainers, he spent Friday nights on the sidelines helping coaches diagnose and deal with injuries. For 28 years, the district relied on Dr. Pirrung’s medical expertise. He provided this free of charge. He was elected to the MISD School Board in 1967 and served until 1976. “Every citizen needs to return something to his community. I choose to serve the school system, because education provided me with so many opportunities to work, to achieve and to contribute to the betterment of society.”
Joey Pirrung, M.D.
